The Russian government confirmed on Monday that seven of the thirteen people who were kidnapped in a pirate attack on a ship off the Benin coast on Friday are citizens of the Eurasian country.
“We would like to report that among the thirteen crew members who were kidnapped 210 miles off the coast of Benin as a result of the pirate attack on the Curaçao Trader on July 17, seven are Russian citizens,” he said in a statement.
On Saturday, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported the kidnapping of 13 of the 19 crew members of the “Curaçao Trader” and found that four of the victims were Ukrainian citizens.
Boarding was carried out by unidentified pirates against the ship operated by Alison Management Corp and resulted in the kidnapping of thirteen of the 19 crew members. The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs later stated that four of the country were citizens.
