The Russian authorities confirmed more than 12,000 coronavirus cases for the first time since the end of February this Friday as part of a new upward trend in the last few days, as the national operations center for the fight against the coronavirus announced.
The agency has detailed that 12,500 infections and 396 deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 5,180,454 and 125,674, respectively. Russia passed the 10,000 positive mark for the first time since March on Wednesday.
The country’s capital, Moscow, appears a day longer than the city with the most cases and deaths on the last day, with 5,853 – the highest value since mid-January – or 60. Saint Petersburg is behind with 863 infections and 45 deaths.
The agency has also stated that a total of 4,782,183 people have recovered from COVID-19 to date, including 10,188 layoffs in the last 24 hours, Russian news agency Sputnik said.
For its part, the National Consumer Protection Agency (Rospotrebnadzor) has highlighted that around 541,000 people are being watched as suspected cases of the coronavirus, adding that around 142 million tests have been carried out in the country.
