Almost 8,000 people in Russia have tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours, an unprecedented number that increases the preliminary balance of the infected to over 114,000, with more than 1,000 people already losing their lives.
The national center, which coordinates the fight against the coronavirus in Russia, achieved 7,933 positive results in one day, most of them in the city of Moscow (3,561) and in the province of the same name (797). Saint Petersburg, the second largest city in the country, registered at least 349 in one day.
The total number of people infected has already risen to 114,431, while that of the deceased has reached 1,169 after adding 96 more victims to the official balance released on Thursday. The Russian authorities estimate that more than 13,000 people have been released.
The federal consumer protection service has announced that it has completed more than 3.7 million tests for COVID-19, the disease derived from the new coronavirus. Of these tests, approximately 225,000 would correspond to the past 24 hours.
