Russia calls criticism of its coronavirus vaccine “unfounded”

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko defended on Wednesday that the criticism of the vaccine developed by Russian research centers was “absolutely unfounded” and accused it of “competition” in the international market to find the drug against COVID -19.

“Foreign colleagues who seem to feel competition and the competitive advantages of the Russian drug are trying to express some opinions that we believe are absolutely unfounded,” he said in a press release from the Sputnik news agency.

Some countries have expressed doubts about the actual effectiveness of Sputnik V, as the Russian authorities have christened the vaccine against COVID-19 as the clinical studies are still ongoing – the third phase is pending – and now it has been registered as such.

“Before all clinical studies are completed, the use of vaccines is like Pandora’s box and therefore potentially dangerous,” said Iranian Health Ministry spokesman Kianush Jahanpur on Twitter this Wednesday.
