Russia and Turkey agree to “investigate” the creation of a working group to resolve the conflict in Libya

Russia and Turkey have agreed to “investigate” the creation of a working group to find a political solution to the armed conflict in Libya, in which the Fayed Serraj government will fight General Jalifa Haftar’s forces.

As the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday, the two countries have decided “to investigate the creation of a joint working group for Libya and to hold the next round of talks in Moscow in the near future”.

In this context, they reaffirmed their intention to “maintain a joint effort, including to influence the Libyan parties, to create the conditions for a permanent ceasefire” and “to work towards a political dialogue in Libya”.

“The Libyan conflict has no military solution, it can only be resolved through a political process led and developed by the Libyans themselves with the support of the United Nations,” they argued.
