Originating in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the new coronavirus pandemic has left 4,995 new cases and 114 deaths in the past 24 hours, compared with 4,952 infections and 115 deaths the previous day, for a total of more than a million people infected and more than 17,500 deaths, as reported Thursday by the Russian center responsible for fighting the virus.
“In the past 24 hours in Russia, 4,995 new cases of coronavirus infections have been confirmed in 83 regions, including 1,200 asymptomatic ones,” the agency said in a statement from Russian news agency Sputnik.
The highest number of new infections corresponds to Moscow with 690 cases, Saint Petersburg with 191 and the province of the Russian capital with 163. With 114 deaths on the last day, the number of deaths is 17,528.
In terms of recovery, a total of 826,935 people have managed to overcome COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, after 5,766 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours.
The National Office of Consumer Protection (Rospotrebnadzor) has reported that to date Russia has carried out more than 37.4 million coronavirus tests, of which 307,000 were completed in the last 24 hours. A total of 210,057 patients remain under medical observation as suspected cases.
