Iranian President Hasan Rouhani assured this Wednesday that the United States could withdraw sanctions and return to the nuclear deal “in one day” if it really wanted to resolve the situation, fearing a final collapse of the nuclear deal signed in 2015, 2018 by Washington abandoned.
“If there is a determination, the United States can return to all of its commitments in one day and we would return to ours,” said the Iranian president, who has asked Washington for “practical measures,” Iranian news agency Tasnim reported .
“Slogans and interviews are not going to make things work,” he said a day after Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Yavad Zarif accused US President Joe Biden of following in the footsteps of his predecessor Donald Trump and using the sanctions as an “advantage” for some conversations.
Likewise, official Iranian sources stressed Tuesday that Tehran will not stop its uranium enrichment work at 20 percent unless the US pulls all sanctions after the US media warned of the possibility of Washington putting forward a new proposal to resume talks
The proposal, which the United States would be working on, calls on Tehran to suspend some of its nuclear activities, including working on advanced centrifuges and enriching uranium by 20 percent, in order to lift some of the sanctions.
The Iranian authorities have announced the withdrawal of their commitments on several points of the agreement, which has sparked fear among the other signatories of a possible collapse of the pact. However, Tehran has consistently argued that these moves can be reversed if the United States withdraws sanctions and reverts to the agreement.
Tehran has also denied US demands, stressing that it was Washington that unilaterally withdrew from the deal and imposed sanctions, and therefore urged the US to return to the deal before the terms were set. It has also refused to include its missile program in the negotiations.
