Putin takes the opportunity to offer to Saudi Arabia the purchase of Russian missile defense systems
ANKARA, Sep. 16 (Reuters / EP) –
Iranian President Hasan Rohani has defended last Saturday's attack against two Saudi refineries as a “reciprocal” act following Saudi bombings on Yemen in his intervention against rebel rebel Huthi militias.
“The Yemeni people are exercising their right to self-defense … these attacks are a reciprocal response to an aggression against Yemen that has been going on for years,” Rohani said from Ankara, where he has met with his Russian counterparts and Turkish Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
For its part, Putin has taken the opportunity to offer Saudi Arabia the purchase of Russian anti-aircraft systems S-400 or S-300 to strengthen the Saudi defense.
“Regarding assistance for Saudi Arabia, in the Holy Quran any form of violence is rejected, except for the defense of its gender. Precisely to defend gender. We are willing to provide appropriate assistance to Saudi Arabia,” Putin explained.
The Russian president has indicated that “it is only necessary that the political leaders of Saudi Arabia make a wise state decision, just as the leaders of Iran did at the time when buying the S-300, or as the president did (Turkish , Recep Tayyip) Erdogan, by buying the latest S-400 Triumf air defense systems from Russia. ” These Russian missiles “will reliably protect any facility in Saudi Arabia.”
The Huthis, considered allies of Iran, vindicated the attack on the Abqaiq and Jurais refineries, which caused the paralysis of half of Saudi daily oil production. However, the United States has directly targeted Iran as responsible for the attack.
On the other hand, the final communiqué of the summit indicates that the three leaders have agreed “to hold the next summit in the Islamic Republic of Iran at the invitation of President Hasan Rohani”, specifically in Tehran.
