Reddit may be preparing to launch its own NFT platform

The social media platform Reddit appears to be hiring staff to help design, build, and maintain a non-fungible token (NFT) platform.

According to a job posting from Greenhouse Reddit is seeking a senior backend engineer for a platform responsible for “the millions of users who create, buy, sell and use NFT-powered digital assets”. The position requires at least five years of backend development experience and the ability to “Design and implement complex, distributed systems that operate under heavy loads”.

“If there’s one thing we’ve noticed about NFTs, it’s that they also have incredible power to create a sense of participation and belonging,” the job posting says.

“With every new NFT project, a lively community of owners emerges. Fans of today’s greatest creators and brands flock to buy digital products direct from them, support them, get exclusive access and feel a greater sense of connectedness with them, we believe this will only increase, and NFTs will play a central role in how fans support their favorite creators and communities. “

Reddit has acted as a collection medium for cryptocurrency users for years, with the platform’s subreddits largely responsible for the rise in the price of various tokens, including Dogecoin (DOGE). Users can also earn the platform’s Community Points, tokens similar to digital currency in the form of moons or bricks, by posting certain content to receive rewards.

While some crypto exchanges are slowly rolling out their own NFT marketplaces, social media platforms have also worked to support the technology, if not to create a competitor to OpenSea. The social media giant Facebook indicated that its Novi wallet would likely support NFTs, and Twitter announced in September that it was working on allowing users to view an NFT as their profile picture.

“The NFT movement has only just begun,” said Reddit.
