Rafael Correa and Andrés Arauz win the Democratic Center primaries for the 2021 presidential election in Ecuador

The candidacy of Andrés Arauz and Rafael Correa prevailed in the primaries of the Democratic Center Party (CD), with which they will be candidates for President and Vice-President in the elections scheduled for February 7, 2021.

The internal elections were conducted electronically that Saturday morning. “On the morning of this Saturday, August 22, 2020, Andrés Arauz and Rafael Correa were ratified in the Centro Democrático primaries,” the party reported on its website.

Arauz is a 35-year-old economist who held various positions during Rafael Correa’s administration. In particular, he was the presidential representative before the National Securities Council and delegate to the board of directors of the liquidity fund of the Ecuadorian financial system.
