Russian President Vladimir Putin this Friday showed his willingness to “improve” relations with the United States, which he believes are at an “extremely low level”, ahead of the meeting with the President. , Joe Biden, on June 16 in the Swiss city of Geneva.
Putin has insisted on discussing “the issues of bilateral relations” with Biden. “I assume that we have to try to find a way to improve these relationships. Today they are at an extremely low level,” he continued, noting that this fact is “very well” known .
“We will talk about strategic stability, about the resolution of international conflicts that are in the most active phase, we will talk about the processes of disarmament and the fight against terrorism, I hope (…) That is by and large our agenda, ”he said during his speech at the International Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg (SPIEF). He also mentioned that they will be looking at “fighting the pandemic” and “environmental issues”.
However, in his speech, the President of the Eurasian country denounced that the United States would try to stop Russia’s development. “They (Washington) only have one discrepancy: they want to stop our development, they say it publicly,” he censored.
With this in mind, he has stated that the actions against Moscow, such as economic restrictions or “attempts” to influence domestic political processes, are “the product of this position”.
When asked whether it was considering imposing new sanctions on the US, Putin said that Russia was not issuing sanctions on its own, but in response to similar measures. At the same time, he noted that Moscow did not “intend” to intervene in US internal affairs, although he made it clear that “it is closely following events in the North American country,” such as the November 3 presidential election.
