Russian President Vladimir Putin fired Sergei Furgal, the governor of the Russian region of Jabarovsk in the east of the country, who was arrested two weeks ago and charged with murdering the “loss of trust”. There have been massive demonstrations in support of Furgal since his arrest.
Putin has already temporarily appointed a new governor, Mikhail Degtiariow, a member of the Russian Liberal Democratic Party (PLDR), which also includes Furgal.
“Mikhail Vladimirovich, there is a job for you. It is a job of great responsibility and very important and of course very necessary for the country. I am referring to the region that I would like to suggest to you to run it. Yabarovsk Province “Putin said in a telematics meeting with Degtiariov that was collected by the Sputnik news agency. Degtiatiov replied that he is “ready to fly to Jabarovsk now”.
The impeachment decree provides that the new interim governor will remain in office until the next election in September 2021.
