Putin and Xi congratulate Lukashenko on his re-election as President of Belarus

The presidents of Russia and China, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, congratulated their Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on Monday on their sixth victory in the elections held on Sunday.

“I hope that his state activity will contribute to the further development of mutually beneficial Russian-Belarusian relations in all areas,” Putin said in a telegram published by the Kremlin and collected by the Russian news agency Sputnik.

Putin has also spoken out in favor of deepening the regional integration process within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States as well as “political and military relations in the organization of the collective security treaty”.

For his part, Xi conveyed his “warmest congratulations and best wishes” to Lukashenko, indicating that he is ready to further develop bilateral relations, which he “values” according to the Xinhua news agency.
