The Nantes Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an arson investigation after three different outbreaks of the fire that hit St. Peter and St. Paul of Nantes Cathedral, a 15th-century building, were found.
According to the French television BFMTV, one focus was found in the area of the temple organ and two more on the side of one of the ships. A firefighter is already traveling from Paris to Nantes to visit the cathedral, said Nantes prosecutor Pierre Sennès.
“There is currently an open arson investigation. There is no clear conclusion as there are still many investigations to be done that could add new elements,” he said.
Sennès said that “there will be great technical and scientific police surveillance done by investigators.”
