The Directorate General for Health of the Portuguese government reported 13 new coronavirus deaths and 227 new positive cases, with a total of 1,203 deaths and 28,810 confirmed cases.
The epidemiological bulletin points out that in some cases this is an increase of 0.8 percent, again led by the north region, followed by Lisbon and the Tajo valley, the center, the Algarve, the Azores and the Alentejo.
On the same Saturday, it was announced that the Ponta Delgada court in the Azores protected a “habeas corpus” and therefore ordered the immediate release of a patient who was detained in a hotel.
The regional government of the Azores has adopted a resolution that quarantines hotels for citizens from outside the archipelago. The plaintiff’s lawyer, Pedro Gomes, has however stated that a complaint has been filed with the prosecutor because he has now examined this unconstitutional detention in the country. It is no longer in a state of emergency.
Since March 26, all passengers arriving in the Azores have been quarantined for 14 days in a hotel designated by local authorities.
