Portugal hits another new record for coronavirus cases with more than 65,700 in the past 24 hours

Portugal registered another new daily record of coronavirus cases this Thursday, registering 65,706 more positive cases, in addition to another 41 deaths from the disease, of which 2,443,524 infections and 19,744 deaths have already been confirmed.

The highest number had been confirmed a day earlier, when 65,578 cases were reported. In just two days, Portugal added 131,284. However, the hospital situation has improved, with 2,249 occupied beds, 147 of which are intensive care beds.

However, these figures mean that in this month of January 2022 alone, more cases were registered than in the whole of 2021, 988,172 compared to 975,968, details the last part offered by the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

In another day, the northern region has again recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases with 27,594 positives and 15 deaths; Again followed by Lisbon and Valle del Tajo with 18,590 infections and 17 deaths.

For the time being, Portugal is the fifth European country with the highest number of infections per million inhabitants. An average of 5,263.7 cases were recorded in the last week, in addition to 4.07 deaths. Despite everything, it is also the country with the highest proportion of the population with a full vaccination schedule, at 90.4 percent, which has helped stabilize the situation in Portuguese hospitals.
