Portugal has the highest rate of COVID-19 infections since April 20th

The Portuguese government confirmed 646 new cases of coronavirus within 24 hours this Wednesday, an unprecedented balance since April 20, bringing the tentative balance of those infected since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to 61,541.

The new cases are mainly spread across the Lisbon and Tajo Valley regions, which account for 290 of the infections registered since Tuesday, and the northern part, which adds 276 more, according to the General Health Directorate collected by the newspaper, ‘Public’.

Authorities have also raised the death toll to 1,849, three more than the previous day, while those recovered rose to 43,284. The government estimates that there are around 16,400 active cases and that 391 people continue to be admitted to hospitals, 52 of them in intensive care.
