The Portuguese health authorities reported 423 new positives for coronavirus this Thursday, a daily balance that reduces active cases of COVID-19 in Portuguese territory to less than 32,000. In total, the country accumulates 819,210 infections in its official equilibrium.
At least 16,814 patients have died, nine more than Wednesday, while 695 continue to be admitted to hospitals, 154 of them in units and in intensive care, according to Directorate-General of Health (DGS) data collected by local media.
By region, Lisbon and the Tagus Valley are still the hardest hit with 182 new positives compared to 126 in the north. In general, however, the improvement in the data extends to the whole country. However, António Costa’s government has strongly urged us not to lessen our vigilance in the face of the deteriorating situation in other regions of Europe.
Parliament plans to approve a new state of emergency extension, which will be in effect until April 15, and which will cement the foreseeable de-escalation of restrictions after Easter.
