U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced this Saturday that he would travel to Japan next October to meet with the new Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, who came to power after Shinzo Abe resigned.
According to information from the NHK television station, Suga is preparing to meet with Pompeo in Tokyo, who also plans to meet high-ranking officials from Australia and India.
This would be the first high-level meeting between Suga and a senior American official since he was sworn in this week. Both are expected to look at the collaboration between the two countries to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
For its part, CAN television has announced that Suga will have a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Sunday.
