Police spray pepper spray on White House protesters

May 30, 2020

Police in Washington have started spraying pepper sprays on demonstrators who have concentrated outside the White House.

The intervention started around 3:20 a.m. (9:20 a.m. in Spain) after several hours during which dozens of demonstrators and security forces have maintained their positions, reports the White House correspondent from Yahoo News, who is on the spot.

At the time of the intervention, there were only a few dozen demonstrators outside the White House, but the culmination of the protest, about an hour before the police intervened, has registered some skirmishes between participants, police and the United States Secret Service.

This concentration was one of those registered for the fourth consecutive Saturday across the country following the death of black citizen George Floyd when he was arrested by the Minneapolis police.

Derek Chauvin, the official who allegedly killed Floyd after crushing his neck during his arrest, was charged with third-degree murder and ill-treatment on Friday.
