Poland surpasses 900 new COVID-19 cases for the first time

The Polish authorities reported 903 new cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours this Friday, an unprecedented number since the beginning of the pandemic that brings the provisional balance of infected people to 60,281 in a country of around 38 million people.

So far, August 8th was the day with the highest number of registered infections in Poland, when the Ministry of Health reported 843. Silesia in southern Poland is the region hardest hit by outbreaks, concentrating 168 of the new coronavirus cases.

A government spokesman has urged citizens to adhere to health protocols even during vacation. Authorities estimate that at least 1,938 people have died from COVID-19 in Poland.
