Poland has registered 680 new cases of coronavirus in the past few hours, a record number of daily infections since the pandemic started in the country, increasing the total number of people infected to over 48,000.
The Ministry of Health reported Tuesday that 680 new cases were registered in those 24 hours, compared to 575 on Monday, 548 on Sunday or 658 on Saturday, the PAP news agency said.
This means that 48,149 people have already received COVID-19 in Poland, 1,738 of whom died, six of them on the previous day, another 11,355 are still in the hospital and 35,056 have recovered.
The virus appears to be spreading in parliament. Three senators tested positive, so the diagnostic tests are being extended to other legislators. The next meetings have been postponed for the time being, with the exception of those scheduled for Thursday, when Andrzej Duda will serve as President for another term.
