Poacher sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing a mountain gorilla in a Ugandan national park

A poacher has sentenced a poacher to 11 years in prison for killing a well-known mountain gorilla in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in June.

Rafiki, the region’s famous silverback man from the Nkurigo group, was reported missing in early June, after which his body was found. The chief suspect admitted to killing the gorilla “for self-defense” after he was arrested after going hunting in the park.

The defendant, identified as Felix Byamukjkama, pleaded guilty to illegally entering a conservation area and killing a gorilla and cormorant, according to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in a statement released on its account. on the social network Facebook.

The man was also convicted of a second case for killing a Potamoquero. Three other people have been arrested with him, who have denied the charges against them and remain in prison until they are brought to justice.
