Members of the Council of State this Friday asked the President of Peru, Pedro Castillo, to convene an “urgent” meeting in the face of “increasing political instability affecting the smooth running of public administration and the full exercise of human rights.”

The head of justice, Elvia Barrios; the Nation’s Prosecutor, Zoraida Ávalos; the President of the National Judicial Authority, Inés Tello; the Comptroller General of Peru, Nelson Shack, and the Ombudsman, Walter Gutiérrez, signed the motion.

The institutions have pointed out that, despite the fact that the rule of law is characterized by the distribution of functions, “this does not mean that they should exercise their powers in isolation,” reports the Peruvian newspaper La República.

Indeed, they recalled that “they have an obligation to work together in dealing with the various problems facing the country”, for which they have asked Castillo to “make every effort to achieve the principle of cooperation and good administrative progress”.

This proposal by the Council of State follows on from the disagreements among the members of the Castillo government, as well as the different perspectives on various issues. In this context, the request of the Peruvian Prime Minister Guido Bellido to the bank of the ruling Peru Libre Party to demand the resignation of Foreign Minister Óscar Maúrtua after a controversy over the vision of relations with Venezuela includes “trade”.

In addition, on the same Thursday, the government faced another crisis related to Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Iber Maraví, who answered seven questions before Congress about his alleged links to terrorist actions in the 1980s related to Maoist guerrillas . After his appearance in the chamber, the opposition put a motion of no confidence.
