Peru reaches 558,420 infections and is already the second country in Latin America with most cases

The Peruvian Ministry of Health reported 4,708 new positive results this Wednesday, with 558,420 cases already recorded in the Andean country, the second most affected country in the South American continent, and has confirmed the deaths of 26,834 people since the first is enacted in mid-March.

The latest number of deaths provided by the Ministry of Health this Wednesday showed a rise of 176 deaths while 13,888 patients remain hospitalized for COVID-19, of which 1,516 are in intensive care with mechanical ventilation.

On the other hand, authorities have highlighted that 377,453 people managed to get medical discharge after overcoming the disease.

The Peruvian government decided in the last few days to extend the state of emergency until August 31, after a new surge in infections was recorded weeks ago.
