Peru confirms a total of 28,277 deaths from coronavirus, 455 of them from police officers

The Peruvian Ministry of Health this Thursday confirmed a total of 621,997 accumulated cases of coronavirus and 28,277 deaths, of which 455 correspond to police officers, while enforcing measures ordered by the government in a state of emergency.

“We have confirmed cases in the National Police, confirmed 27,408, of which 455 unfortunately died, personnel who were on the first line of action against this pandemic,” reported General Julio Mercado, Director of Health of the National Police.

During a dialogue for Peruvian public television, Mercado added that around 21,000 agents infected with the disease have recovered and resumed their activities.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health reported 153 deaths and 3,329 additional infections in its latest tally this Thursday, while the number of those recovered has already risen to 429,662.
