The Peruvian Ministry of Health this Sunday confirmed 10,143 new positive results, for which there are already 535,946 cases, and the deaths of 206 people. That makes 26,281, and the Andean country is the second largest country with the highest percentage of mortality. 78 deaths per 100,000 population, only exceeded by Belgium, with 86.
These new numbers are confirmed the day the country was re-quarantined on Sunday after the government announced the extension of the state of emergency to August 31 because of the recent outbreaks.
According to the latter part of the Ministry of Health, 365,367 people have managed to overcome the disease, although there are still 14,074 patients in the hospital, 1,533 of whom are in intensive care.
Peruvian President Martín Vizcarra announced days ago the decision by the health authorities and the government to extend the state of emergency until next August 31, as the number of infections has increased significantly after some measures were eased.
