Peru breaks a new daily case record with more than 5,700 and warns that “difficult” weeks are coming

The Peruvian ministry reported Tuesday that 5,772 new cases of coronavirus had been registered in the past 24 hours, for a total of 129,751, and the operations commando against COVID-19 has warned that they are approaching “difficult weeks”.

“We regret to report that COVID-19 has caused 3,788 deaths in the country,” the health ministry said in a statement after the last 159 deaths were added. The number of people who managed to overcome the disease rose to 52,906.

The capital Lima is still the most affected region with 80,882 registered infections, while the Apurímac department in the south of the country is the reverse case and only 146 cases have been confirmed so far.

For her part, Pilar Mazzetti, head of the operations command against COVID-19, has warned that “difficult times and weeks” are approaching as “people get sick”.

During an interview for ATV +, which in turn collected the newspaper “El Comercio”, Mazzetti said that the pandemic in Peru was “heterogeneous” and that they were watching “people who tested positive two weeks ago”. from COVID-19: “You have now started to get sick.”
