Peru and Colombia announce an agreement on a joint plan against the coronavirus on the border

The governments of Peru and Colombia on Tuesday announced an agreement on a bilateral plan to combat coronavirus at the common border to “help prevent, control and mitigate the effects of the pandemic”.

The foreign ministries of both countries have indicated in a joint statement that this plan “establishes binational coordination and articulation mechanisms aimed at reducing morbidity and mortality and at mitigating the other effects of the pandemic”.

Likewise, they said that “the promotion of binational surveillance of the development of the COVID-19 pandemic in border areas will enable binational measures for health promotion, health risk prevention and emergency health care in the face of pandemic in border integration areas”.

Ministries have also highlighted that this plan will allow Lima and Bogotá to “step up the delivery of services in border health facilities to ensure timely, adequate and efficient health care”.
