Peru adds 54,384 cases in a single day and exceeds 5,000 COVID-19 deaths

The Peruvian Ministry of Health reported Thursday that 54,384 confirmed cases were registered in a single day and more than 5,000 coronavirus deaths have occurred.

“We regret to report that COVID-19 killed 5,031 people in the country,” the ministry said in a statement. As of Wednesday, 4,894 deaths had been confirmed, with an additional 137 deaths added.

A total of 183,198 people out of a total of 1.1 million people tested tested positive for coronavirus. Another 952,633 gave negative.

To date, 9,063 people have been hospitalized for COVID-19, of whom 1,005 are in intensive care units with mechanical ventilation.

Likewise, 76,228 people are locked in their homes or have been released from a health center. Lima, the country’s capital, remains the most affected with 108,680 confirmed cases.
