BAGDAD, Nov. 23 (DPA / EP) –
The vice president of the United States, Mike Pence, has arrived on Saturday in Iraq in surprise visit to discuss with the Iraqi authorities the current situation of protests in the country, the most serious in recent history, in which more than 330 have already died people.
Pence will meet with the Prime Minister of Iraq, Adel Abdel Mahdi, and with the President of Parliament, Mohamed al Habusi, according to US government sources.
Pence is also expected to review the prominent US troops in the west of the country.
Protesters demand the departure of the government from corrupt politicians, who are criticized for being in the service of foreign interests. Unsatisfied by the broken promises, a part of the population has opted for civil disobedience.
