Palestinian militias attempt to shoot down Israeli helicopters during recent clashes in Gaza

In recent hours, Palestinian militias in the Gaza Strip have attempted to use anti-aircraft missiles to shoot down several Israeli military helicopters during Israel’s attacks on the Palestinian enclave in retaliation for two missiles falling in the center of the country yesterday.

According to Palestinian media, quoted by the Times of Israel, operations by the Islamist movement Hamas, which controls the enclave, fired two SAM-7 anti-aircraft missiles at helicopters west of Gaza City.

The Israeli army has confirmed the launch of these rockets without confirming their number. The military has reported that the missiles missed their target.

The SAM-7 missile, also known as the 9K32 Strela-2, is a Russia-made surface-to-air missile with a shoulder launch. They are relatively out of date since they were first made in the 1960s but are still used today.

The Israeli air strikes, carried out by both helicopters and fighter jets, were carried out in response to two rockets fired from Gaza on Saturday morning with no casualties.
