MADRID, Nov. 20 (EUROPE PRESS) –

“We are addressing the Spanish Government to recognize the independent Palestinian state because they have always recognized it in theory but it must be put into practice. All this at a time when the US Administration makes a statement that is totally opposed to International Law,” said the Palestinian ambassador at a press conference at the headquarters of his diplomatic legation in Madrid.

Odeh has said that the relations of the Government of Spain with Israel should be determined to the extent that this country respects “Human Rights and International Law.”

Along the same lines, the Palestinian ambassador has demanded that the countries of the European Union assume the recognition of Palestine as an independent state after the decision of the United States Government to stop considering Jewish settlements in the Territories illegal and contrary to International Law Palestinians “We want peace and it cannot be achieved as long as the Israeli occupation continues,” he said.

Odeh has called on European countries to recognize the Palestinian state as a result of their support and defense of the solution of the two states for the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “We must recognize the other state. Recognize the Palestinian state now,” he said.

In this regard, he said that the recognition of Palestine as a state “is not against anyone” and has claimed that it is “a legitimate right of the Palestinian people.”

On the decision of the United States Government to change its political position with respect to Israeli settlements in the Palestinian Territories, Odeh has stressed that the decision goes “against International Law”, the Geneva Convention and Security Council resolutions of United Nations and its General Assembly.

In addition, he said that the decision announced this week by the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, goes against Human Rights because it means legitimizing an occupation of a territory by an occupying power and has stressed that the occupation of territories is considered a “war crime”.

Odeh has pointed out that the United States has adopted this change in its political stance in relation to the “colonies”, contravening the doctrine that the previous US Government has maintained, to support the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, at a time when He has been unable to form a government and is pending trial for corruption.

In addition, he has called on the European Union to make “gestures” towards the Palestinians after the change of US position with the settlements and stressed that the first step must be the full recognition of Palestine as a state. With that decision, the EU would convey to the Palestinians the message that they are not “alone” and to Israelis who cannot act in contravention of International Law.

Odeh has stressed that the European Union should also model relations with Israel based on their level of compliance with International Law and Human Rights, while calling on the international community not to sit idly after the turn of the United States in relation to Jewish settlements.

The Palestinian ambassador in Spain has vindicated the right of the Palestinians to “defend themselves” and “resist” in the face of “Israeli occupation” and has equated this right with the ones that Europeans had when they opposed the “Nazi occupation” during the Second War World.

Finally, he criticized the decision of the United States to stop supporting and “trying to liquidate” the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees and recalled that this UN agency has a mandate until the “diaspora” issue is resolved. Palestine.
