PAHO locates the “epicenter” of the coronavirus pandemic in America

May 27, 2020

The Director General of the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), Carissa F. Etienne, has located the “epicenter” of the coronavirus pandemic in America and her particular concern about the recovery in cases in Latin America in countries such as Brazil, Peru and Chile.

“There is no doubt that our region has become the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the PAHO director in the weekly appearance she offered online on Tuesday.

Etienne reported that there are already over 2.4 million cases in America, including 143,000 deaths, with a global balance of more than five million infected and more than 350,000 deaths.

In particular, he noted that “Latin America outperformed Europe and the United States in reported daily number of coronavirus infections,” figures that PAHO believes are “even higher.”
