At least one soldier and five suspected militiamen died on Tuesday in a renewed confrontation between the army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo) and the armed group in Ituri province in northeastern Africa.

Clashes broke out in the town of Kikoga, Irumu area, after militiamen attacked an army checkpoint, ituri spokesman Jules Ngongo confirmed.

Ngongo has pointed out that a soldier was injured in the clashes recorded for several months during the increase in attacks by CODECO in this Congolese province, according to Radio Okapi.
