Obiang dissolves the Equatorial Guinean government because of its “restructuring” due to the economic crisis

Equatorial Guinea’s President Teodoro Obiang Nguema has ordered the dissolution of the Malabo government after all of its members offered their positions to the President to restructure in the face of the economic crisis the African country is going through due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The President (…) dissolves the Malabo government for its restructuring so that the executive power provides the people of Equatorial Guinea with the welfare that it needs for good governance in all areas, good economic management and efficient administrative management” it in the official government statement.

Earlier, the government spokesman and Minister for Information, Press and Radio, Eugenio Nze Obiang, reported that President Obiang Nguema’s ministers were empowered to take the appropriate measures “to address the situation in which the country is changing, that could be done within the government “.

The spokesman noted that the president was forced to “take tough measures to mitigate the effects and possible bankruptcy of the government given its specific commitments and to prevent serious political situations that could provoke general public discontent”.
