The Norwegian government has ordered the expulsion of a Russian diplomat allegedly linked to the Norwegian national who was arrested last weekend on an espionage scandal for divulging classified information to foreign authorities.
A spokeswoman for the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, Trude Maaseide, has confirmed the exclusion from the NRK chain, claiming that the diplomat has taken measures that are “incompatible” with his theoretical official work. You must leave the Nordic country within 72 hours.
Norwegian police reported on Monday the arrest of a national of Indian origin who the authorities accuse of leaking information to another country. This suspected spy, identified as Harsharn Singh Tathgar, was arrested while meeting with the diplomat in a restaurant, who has now been declared “non grata”.
The detainee, who is in temporary prison, is now sentenced to up to 15 years’ imprisonment for violating two articles of the Norwegian Criminal Code for divulging state secrets.
