The Nobel Prize in Literature Svetlana Alexievich was cited by the Belarusian Committee of Inquiry as a criminal witness to the creation of the so-called Opposition Coordination Council, of which she is a member.
“Svetlana Alexievich was called to the investigative committee at 2 p.m. on Wednesday as a witness in a criminal case initiated by the establishment of the Coordination Council,” said the investigative committee itself, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.
The press office of the Coordination Council confirmed the call: “Yes. Svetlana plans to take part,” emphasized a spokesman for the group.
Another member of the Presidency of the Coordination Council, Olga Kovalkova, said that Alexievich had not yet participated in the work of the organization for health reasons, although it had contacts with its members.
