Opposition organizations Alianza Cívica and Unidad Azul y Blanco (UNAB) have called for a “counter march” on social networks for the next July 19, the 41st anniversary of the Sandinista revolution, to counter the virtual celebration planned by Daniel Ortega’s government this important date.
They urged Ortega’s critics to mobilize next Sunday by posting a photo of him with the national flag and the hashtag # LibertadParaPresosPolitical on their social networks. “Let’s fill the nets with blue and white. #ContraMarchaAzulyBlanco,” he wrote on Twitter.
For Alianza Cívica “there is nothing to celebrate on July 19” because “Nicaragua continues to have a dictatorship with political prisoners”. “Let us show that blue and white people continue to resist a truly free and democratic Nicaragua,” he encouraged.
The two organizations emerged as a result of the protests against Ortega in April 2018 to demand the “democratization” of Nicaragua, which resulted in more than 300 deaths and hundreds of detainees, some of whom were released thanks to dialogue between the parties. and the mediation by the Red Cross, although many remain in detention.
