Last week, Daniel Ortega’s government verified three more deaths, leaving 144 people in Nicaragua dead as a result of the pandemic. The authorities estimate that 3,583 patients have recovered and 125 people will be “re-examined”, according to the newspaper “La Prensa”.
The executive has repeatedly defended that infections are being controlled, but the opposition is questioning the official data. The Citizen Observatory, which works from independent sources, has reported 10,121 cases and 2,699 deaths, based on data updated as of Sept. 2.
