WASHINGTON, Sep. 18 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced that he has issued an order to the Treasury Department to “substantially” increase sanctions against Iran, which he considers responsible for the attacks last week against two oil refineries in Saudi Arabia.
“I have just ordered the Treasury secretary to substantially increase the sanctions against the country of Iran,” Trump proclaimed in his Twitter account.
The United States has tightened its punishments against the Islamic Republic after separating more than a year ago from the commitments signed in 2015 under the nuclear agreement, considering that there were insufficient guarantees to curb the Iranian arms industry.
The tension has skyrocketed in recent days in the wake of drone attacks against two strategic facilities in Saudi Arabia, for which the United States also holds Iran responsible even though they have been claimed by Yemeni rebels.
