WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, congratulated on Monday the president-elect of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, with whom he hopes to continue working to promote “shared values” between the two countries.
Pompeo has appealed to the alliance between Uruguay and the United States, “lasting and beneficial for both”, in a brief statement in which he has assured that the two countries have “many shared values and priorities.” In this regard, he recalled that the bilateral relationship dates back 150 years.
Lacalle Pou prevailed in the last presidential elections to Daniel Martínez, official candidate. The triumph of the conservative leader puts an end to fifteen years of government of the leftist Frente Amplio and anticipates turns in foreign policy, for example as a next support for Juan Guaidó as legitimate president in Venezuela.
