September 26, 2019

PARIS, Sep. 26 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The former French president Jacques Chirac died Thursday at age 86 at his home in Paris, as reported by his family to the Gauls media.

The former president, who led the country from 1995 to 2007, had been retired from public life for years and was a victim of a cerebral vascular problem in 2005.

The conservative politician had to govern in cohabitation with a socialist government led by Lionel Jospin and in the 2002 elections he faced ultra-right-wing Jean-Marie Le Pen in the second round.
