The Agrigento Prosecutor orders the kidnapping of the ‘Open Arms’ and the landing of migrants

August 20, 2019

ROME, Aug. 20 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Agrigento Prosecutor's Office has ordered the provisional kidnapping of the 'Open Arms' and the landing of the dozens of migrants and refugees still on board, hours after Prosecutor Luigi Patronaggio examined the conditions of the Spanish NGO ship.

Patronaggio considers this measure necessary because of the conditions in which migrants are and despite the fact that the Spanish government has announced on Tuesday the sending of a patrol car to Lampedusa to transfer migrants to a Balearic port, according to the Adnkronos agency.

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini had anticipated shortly before the possibility of the prosecutor taking action, but insisted on his defense of the doctrine of “closed ports” even if the “nth” complaint against him came. Salvini has assumed the “personal risk” to which he is exposed.
