Salvini says that a government of the M5S and the PD will represent the “old policy”

ROME, Aug. 22 (EUROPE PRESS) –

The leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, has assured that “Italy cannot afford to waste time” and has charged against the apparent rapprochement between the 5 Star Movement (M5S) and the Democratic Party (PD), warning that an agreement between both would mean the return of the “old policy.”

Italy, Salvini stressed, “can not afford a fighting government, with distant positions.” The acting Interior Minister has argued that in this new context the League is a “compact” force that undertakes to act “for the good of the country and not for personal interests,” according to the Adnkronos agency.

For Salvini, the good for Italy goes through the call for early parliamentary elections, as he claimed by presenting this month a motion of censure against the Government of which he himself was a part. The ultra-rightist leader considered the discrepancies with the M5S, his coalition partner, insurmountable.

Salvini has attended this Thursday the round of consultations opened by the president of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, with the same message under his arm. “The president of the Republic has and will have all the elements to choose the best in the name of the Italian people,” said the leader of the League.

Once the Mattarella round of consultations with the various parties concludes this Thursday afternoon, the head of state must decide whether there are options for an alternative government to comply with the current distribution of forces or it is necessary to call new elections.
