Northern Ireland boy killed in Tenerife hit and run

A man has been arrested after a nine-year-old boy from Northern Ireland died in hospital following a hit and run in Tenerife.

Carter Carson, from Newtownabbey, was leaving a shopping centre with his family in Adeje in the south of the island on Thursday when he was struck by a car.

He died in hospital on Friday.

A car believed to have been involved was found abandoned a few miles from the scene.

Carter was a P5 pupil at Abbots Cross Primary School in Newtownabbey.

In a statement the school said: “The whole school community of Abbots Cross Primary is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our P5 pupil, Carter Carson.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Carter’s immediate and wider family circle at this tragic time.”

In a statement the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are providing assistance to the family following the tragic death of a British child in Tenerife.”
