ISLAMABAD, Sep 25 (DPA / EP) –

At least 32 people have died and more than 450 have been injured by the earthquake recorded Tuesday in Kashmir administered by Pakistan, as well as the regions of Punjab and Jíber Pajtunjua, according to the latest balance of victims.

A dozen people have died throughout the night because of the injuries suffered in the most affected district of Mirpur, bringing the number of deaths in this place to 30, according to the head of the local police, Sardar Gulfraz Jan. In addition, two other people, including a child, have died in two cities in Punjab, said San Sajad of the emergency teams.

To this are added more than 450 wounded who have been transferred to different hospitals in Mirpur and another 20 in the city of Jehlum, where the epicenter of the earthquake has been recorded. The authorities have warned that the balance of fatalities could increase in the next few hours, since 150 of the injured are seriously injured.

The United States Geological Institute, the USGS, has set the magnitude of the earthquake at 5.8 on the Richter scale. It has been felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other cities in northern Pakistan. Local media have published several images showing cracks in a road and overturned cars.

The army chief, General Qamar Yaved Bajua, has instructed soldiers to participate in rescue efforts in Pakistani Kashmir and other affected areas. The military authorities have already sent airplanes and medical equipment.

“We believe that some people may remain trapped but we cannot reach them because the roads are damaged and the rain is strong,” said Saeedur Rehman, another member of the emergency teams.

For his part, the Pakistani Prime Minister, Imran Jan, has expressed his regret for what happened and expressed his condolences. The authorities have decreed the alert in the hospitals in the area.
