MADRID, Oct. 2 (EUROPE PRESS) –

Senator Bernie Sanders, one of the favorites to win the Democratic candidacy in the 2020 presidential elections in the United States, is hospitalized after suffering chest pains and has suspended all his campaign acts for the moment.

Sanders, 78, is hospitalized in Las Vegas, according to US media. As reported by his campaign team in a statement, on Tuesday night “he experienced some chest discomfort” during a campaign event.

After a medical examination and tests, “it was detected that he had a blockage in an artery and two stents were successfully inserted,” the official note said.

The senator for Vermont, who has already tried unsuccessfully to opt for the White House in the 2016 elections, “already talks and is encouraged” but will have to rest “for a few days.” Therefore, it has proceeded to cancel all its acts “until further notice,” said his campaign.

Sanders is third in the preferences of Americans in the struggle for the Democratic nomination. According to the latest poll published on Wednesday by 'The Economist', currently favorite is also Senator Elizabeth Warren, with 26 percent of the support, followed by former Vice President Joe Biden, with 22 percent, and Sanders, with 14 percent.
