October 3, 2019

Armed men kidnapped Mustafa al Treki, a member of the Superior State Council, on Tuesday in the Libyan town of Zauiya (northwest), the agency itself confirmed in a statement.

The Superior State Council has condemned the abduction and blamed the event on an armed group loyal to Field Marshal Jalifa Haftar, loyal to the authorities settled in the east of the country, as reported by the local newspaper 'The Libya Observer'.

He also asked the authorities to do everything possible to free Al Treki and stressed that the event “is a violation of all laws and a threat to efforts to build a democratic and civil state in Libya with freedom of expression. “.

Haftar forces were already accused in May of kidnapping Mohamed Abú Ghamja, also a member of this body, and of abducting Siham Sergeua, a member of the House of Representatives in July – the legislative seat of the authorities settled in the east of the country–.

Sergeua had spoken in the past against Haftar's offensive against the capital, Tripoli, the seat of the internationally recognized Government, of which the Superior State Council is a part.
