ATHENS, Sep 16 (Reuters / EP) –

A virulent forest fire on the Greek island of Zante has forced about 300 people to evacuate in two locations on Sunday.

“We have evacuated about 300 residents and tourists from the villages of Keri and Agalas as a precaution,” a spokesman for the Fire Department told Reuters news agency.

“The fire is near the houses,” he explained. The island of Zante is located about 300 kilometers west of Athens, the capital of Greece.

More than 100 firefighters – with 28 trucks – are fighting the flames. To the extinction works two helicopters and four hydroplanes have been added.
